Bal Thackeray memorial to be open to public from tomorrow

Ahead of the first death anniversary of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, the Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has developed a landscaped garden in his memory at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai. The Thackeray memorial will be thrown open to public on Sunday.

Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Mumbai Mayor Sunil Prabhu said: “No construction has gone into the development of a memorial for late Balasaheb at Shivaji Park. Using natural stones, red soil and 15 kinds of flowering plants, the BMC has developed a landscaped Bal Thackeray memorial. The memorial will be thrown to public on the occasion of first death anniversary of the Sena chief on Sunday”.

Having cleared the original proposal for development of a landscaped garden in memory of late Thackeray at Shivaji Park, the State-run Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) had on Thursday allowed the installation of bollards around the memorial site – a concession that will add to the decor of the place.
