Bajwa to announce new move to save 'sinking Congress'

Facing stormy waters since the Assembly polls last year, the Congress party is all set to make yet another effort to keep the rocking ship on course.

Already commanding the vessel, its newly-appointed skipper Partap Singh Bajwa is expected to announce some new moves during his official take-over ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony itself is expected to be a gala affair, with two Chief Ministers expected to arrive for the function. His “within-the-party rivals” too are expected to be on the deck.

With many of the Congressmen claiming it to be a “landmark” event — both in terms of number and otherwise, they are expecting a turnaround in party’s fortunes with the new chief. While Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has confirmed his presence in the function of Punjab Congress. His Himachal counterpart, Virbhadra Singh could also make it.

Besides, all the Union Ministers from the State, including Preneet Kaur, Manish Tewari, and Ashwani Sharma will be present other than the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the State.

Bajwa is also learnt to have solicited the attendance of his predecessor, and also “rival”, Capt Amarinder Singh, when he takes charge as the State party president.

Extending an olive branch to Capt Amarinder’s loyalists, Bajwa appointed his staunch loyalists including Arvind Khanna, Kikki Dhillon, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot among 25 coordinators to take stock of his swearing-in ceremony preparations.
