First snowfall of the season coupled with rain in the mountainous regions since Tuesday has caused a considerable drop in temperature and has also brought about cold weather in the higher reaches of the Himalayan region. Snowfall was reported at Badrinath since Wednesday morning with up to three inches thick snow.
This apart, rain in the other mountainous regions has heralded the advent of the winter cold. However, according to observers, if the rains continue longer the standing crops ripe for harvest will be damaged. The combination of snowfall in the higher reaches and rain in other areas along with the resultant drop in temperature is forcing many people to remain indoors.
