Punjab Government is turning professional in its approach to send across its message to the people. Instead of depending on the existing babus, it has decided to hire professionals.

With all-important lok Sabha elections drawing near, the State Government has got into serious business and has decided to engage the services of eminent personalities from television and films to be appointed as brand ambassadors for its various social welfare schemes. The approval to engage the services of eminent TV or film personalities as brand ambassadors was given by the State Cabinet on Thursday.

“to effectively disseminate the policies and programs of the State Government aimed at its overall development and welfare of the people at the grass root level”.

Already, the State Government has roped in all-rounder cricketer Yuvraj Singh as its poster boy for the cancer detection and screening campaign.Other than this, Punjabi comedian—actor Gurpreet Ghuggi has also been helping the Punjab Election Commission in wooing the youngsters to enroll as voters in the role of its brand ambassador.

Before Ghuggi, comedian, actor, director Jaspal Bhatti, who died last year in a road accident, was the brand ambassador for the election commission.

The policies and programs of the State relating to social welfare schemes would be aptly projected through advertisements in electronic and print media, said a senior Government official.

The poster boy or girl, to be chosen, would be selected considering the scheme or the programme of the State Government for which they have to be roped in. “Brand ambassadors should be someone who can have the regional appeal and people could connect with them. We are mainly looking for role models or youth icons,” added the official.

With an eye on the ensuing parliamentary polls, the State Government is all ready to launch or extend its several social welfare schemes — “game-changer” Atta-Dal scheme, Dr Hargobind Khurana Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Scheme, among others.
