Azad to steer Cong committee ahead of Assembly polls

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is all set to occupy the driver's seat to steer the faction-ridden Pradesh Congress committee ahead of the forthcoming Assembly polls in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Though no formal announcement has been made in what capacity he would be handling the affairs of the Pradesh Congress committee but leaders privy to inhouse deliberations told The Pioneer, "a broader understanding has been achieved  and the party high command has directed the warring factions to bury the hatchet and work 'unitedly' to strengthen the party ahead of the crucial polls.

Sitting JKPCC Chief GA Mir had earlier tendered his resignation to make way for the new JKPCC Chief.

However, several senior party leaders adopted a tough posturing when the party high command started lobbying in support of a junior leader from the Ghulam Nabi Azad camp.

The move also brought out fissures among the Azad loyalists prompting them to visit New Delhi to resolve the leadership crisis.

Inside reports suggested the party high command has almost made up its mind to hand over the power baton to the tallest party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in order to galvanise the party workers  and motivate them to give a tough fight to their political opponents.
