Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Dr Avinash Chander will retire on November 30 but will continue to occupy the position on a contractual basis till May, 2016.
He will also continue to hold the post of Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, officials said here on Friday.
Chander joined DRDO in 1972 after completing graduation in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He is responsible for successful completion of Agni missile project despite facing restrictive international control regimes for sharing technology.
His continuation at the helm comes at a time when the NDA Government is going in for ‘Make In India’ policy for producing hi-tech weapon systems within the country. DRDO will play a major role in induction of cutting edge technology in various projects and making the ‘Make in India’ policy a success.
