The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat police on Monday said that they have nabbed one more accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts from Belgaum in Karnataka.
Ahmedabad had witnessed a series of 21 bomb blasts in a span of little over an hour on July 26, 2008, killing 56 people and injuring over 200. Atleast 25 other bombs were found from diamond city of Surat on the same day but no injury was reported as all of them were failed to go off or were found before they could cause casualty.
The police said that Nasir alias Parvez Abdul Mazid Rangrez (38 years), against whom a local metropolitan court had issued arrest warrant since long in connection with the conspiracy of the blasts, was nabbed from his native place Belgaum in Karnataka on Sunday.
“We had collected information about him and got to know that he was working as an auto-rickshaw driver there. He was also a member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and had conducted training camps in Pavagadh and other places too,” said the police.
The police claimed that Nasir and his associates had carried out the blasts in Ahmedabad as revenge against the Gujarat riots of 2002.
