Atif Aslam's concerts in Gujarat may be cancelled

In protest of musical concerts of famous Pakistani singer Atif Aslam to be held on Saturday in Rajkot and on June 23 in Ahmedabad, a controversy erupted in Gujarat following a comment by rightwing organisation Bajrang Dal.

Bajrang Dal Gujarat unit president Haresh Chauhan claimed the decision of the organisers to host Pakistani singer is intended to promote ‘love Jehad’ in the region. According to Chauhan, there are many talented singers in our country and organisers could have hosted one of them.

Threatening the private organisers, he said that if they would not cancel the show or replace Pakistani artist with Indian singer, Bajarang Dal would not allow the event to take place.

According to Bajarag Dal workers, at a time Pakistan is creating unrest in various parts of the country, especially in Kashmir, there is no need to host Pakistani artists in the country.

In a protest to the high-profile event, Bajarag Dal workers burnt effigy of Aslam Atiff and marched in the main roads of both the cities with banners and placards on Wednesday. In Ahmedabad police also detained 15 Bajarang Dal workers as they did not take permission to organise rally.
