The ‘asthi kalash’ of former Prime Minister the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which was earlier scheduled to reach lucknow on Tuesday,

will now be brought to the State Capital on August 23 and the ashes will be taken to all district headquarters the next day.

“The late Prime Minister’s ‘asthi kalash’ is not coming on Tuesday because of unavoidable circumstances.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with family members of Vajpayeeji will bring it on August 23,” Bharatiya Janata Party state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here on Monday.

The BJP will keep the ‘asthi kalash’ at all district party offices so that people may pay their last respects to the departed leader.

The ashes will later be immersed in the local rivers in each district.

Pathak said that the Union Home Minister would bring 18 ‘kalash’ (urns) carrying Vajpayeeji’s ashes by a flight around 11 am on August 23. The same day, a ‘shraddhanjali sabha’ will be held in lucknow after which the ashes of one ‘kalash’ will be immersed in the Gomti river while the rest 17 urns will be taken to divisional headquarters on August 24.

The BJP leader said that leaders of all parties would be invited to attend the ‘shraddhanjali sabhas’ to be held in each district.

“Before immersion of the ashes, ‘sarva dharma sabhas’ (all-religion meetings) will be held at the BJP district units,” Pathak said.

As per plans, ‘asthi kalash yatra’ will be taken out, led by a state minister and a state office-bearer of the party and at some places, Cabinet ministers will also take part in the function.
