Assets under CBI lens not mine: Andhra DGP

Beleaguered chief of Andhra Pradesh Police on Thursday came out with his defence over the probe by the CBI into his assets on the orders of the Supreme Court.

In a two-page statement, the top cop said that the assets in which the Supreme Court has ordered the probe do not belong to him but they belong to other people who have no connection to him.

Dinesh Reddy traced the apex court orders back to now famous “pseudonymous petition” written to the Union Home Secretary before his appointment as the DGP in June 2011.

He said that more than 800-page long petition was purportedly written by All India Banjara Samiti but after the subsequent probe by the State CID it was found that the letter was forged by another IPS officer Umesh Kumar. He pointed out that the officer as well as others were charge-sheeted in the case and trial was on in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad. The DGP recalled Umesh Kumar had forged the signature of member of Parliament MA Khan in this letter.

On the issue of assets, Reddy said that the pseudonymous petition contained 542 registered sale deeds pertaining to 1,500 acres of land belonging to various other who were in no way connected to him. “These 542 registered sale deeds also include sale deeds of seven-and-a-half acres belonging to us,” he said.

“Some of these documents belong to one S Nalini w/o SV Rao whom the author of this petition calls her as my sister-in-law which is totally false”, he said.He alleged that the letter was aimed at scuttling his chances of becoming the DGP.
