Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the Government of Assam has decided to bring the master roll and casual workers employed by the State Government under pay-scales which will ensure increased financial benefit to them. The Minister said this while addressing a press conference at Dispur and added that the decision will benefit 13,860 master roll and casual workers working under 52 departments of the State.
"The average wage of these master role workers used to be between Rs 3000 to Rs 6.000 per month. However after they were brought to the pay scale system, their average monthly salary will be Rs 18,000 approximately," said the Minister. Sarma said that the move will cost the State exchequer with an additional expenditure of close to Rs 177 crore per year. He said that the Government will issue the notification in this regard soon and will be executed from Monday itself.
"The move will also ensure that the casual or master role workers will not be terminated till their retirement age," he said adding that the Government is also working on to ensure how other benefits like accidental insurance or health insurance can also be provided to these workers. The minister also clarified that the government has no plans to stop recruitment against vacant posts in the any departments and that the BJP led government in the state has so far appointed 3711 persons against grade IV posts in the state in last two years.
