Arunachal political turmoil is part of BJP's game plan: Tuki

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has said that the recent political turmoil in the hill State is a part of a bigger game plan of the BJP to destabilise the political scenario in the Northeastern States and to grab power, particularly after the saffron party’s debacle in Bihar polls.

“It is a game plan of the BJP from the day one. Because they know that the Arunachal Pradesh is the only State where Modi wave did not work. We got elected by a thumping majority-by winning 42 out of 60 seats in last Assembly last year while BJP got just only 11 seats,” Tuki said while adding that the saffron party not only wanted to grab power in the northeastern States but also wanted to avenge the party electoral defeat in Bihar polls.

“People in Arunachal Pradesh have full faith and confidence on the ruling Congress Government. Congress is a grassroots party in Arunachal Pradesh and they (BJP) know that they cannot compete with us. Therefore to create disturbances and destabilise the Government they are plotting this faction of the Congress leaders by using Raj Bhavan and that the all activities of the dissidents are being monitored from Delhi,” he said.

Tuki, who became the Chief Minister of the State in 2011, said that the dissidence in Arunachal Pradesh Congress started after the joining of the JP Rajkhowa as the new Governor of the State earlier this year. “From the day one, the new Governor started criticising my Government and termed Arunachal Pradesh as one of the most corrupt States of India. He (Governor) also used the Raj Bhavan to campaign against the ruling Government by meeting the BJP and RSS workers there,” he added.

On the alleged financial mismanagement in the State-as alleged by the dissident Congress leaders, Tuki said that the financial status of the state is comfortable. “I think my State is one among the best financially managed States in the northeast. There were financial difficulties because of shortfall of recommendations during 13th finance commission. But 14th finance commission has given us relief and the status is comfortable,” he said.

Asking the BJP, who is ruling at the Centre, to keep away from the divisive politics, he said that the saffron party has been trying to divide the society on political lines. “Today they are targeting Arunachal, Pradesh, tomorrow they will target Assam, then Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura and the whole NE States,” he said while saying that this divisive politics of the BJP has also been affecting the Cnetre State relationships.

Saying that he has full faith on the judiciary of the country, Tuki said that he is even ready for a floor test in the House if necessary. “There is a democratic system as per the provisions of the Constitution of India. We believe in that system. if the system is followed we are ready to accept it but it should not be done arbitrarily,” he added.
