Police in Andhra Pradesh’s Khammam district denied that that a woman Maoist arrested along with two others on Monday had links with the recent massacre in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar.

Officer on Special Duty Kothagudem T Srinivas Rao said that Kursam Motibai alias Madhavi was arrested with two other persons on Monday while they were travelling from Bhadrachalam to Vijaywada.

“She has nothing to do with the recent Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh,” he said. The three arrested persons were produced in a local court in Palvancha and they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

The other two persons were identified as 20-year-old Prithviraj and his father A Dharmaraj, an employee of South Central Railway in Vijaywada. Prithviraj was a student of MA in Hyderabad Central University.

Police said that Motibai, wife of Chandranna alias Shankar alias Bhaskar, member of CPI Maoist Central Committee and in-charge of North Telangana regional committee of the party. She was travelling in a car to Vijaywada for treatment as she was suffering from Malaria. On a tip-off about the movement of the Maoists from Chhattisgarh to Khammam, the police had set up check-posts on the roads.
