Arrest warrant? Another Gujarat IPS in tight spot

Published on:

Around a week after Gujarat top cop PP Pandey was sent to jail after he surrendered in the Ishrat Jahan case, arrest warrant is looming over another senior IPS officer of the State. Inspector General of Police Satish Verma is allegedly involved in nearly two-decade old cases of encounter, killings and custodial death. The incidents occurred when he was SP in Porbandar district.

Verma, who assisted the CBI in the Ishrat probe, had last month filed a petition in the Gujarat HC seeking relief in these cases. However, the court dismissed his petition and ordered the Gujarat Police to submit status report in the investigation by October 21. The State Government has appointed SIT to probe the alleged killing of Jasu Gagan Shial and custodial deaths of two others.
