Vaiko, the founder and the general secretary of the MDMK, has landed himself in trouble for his exhortation to the people of Tamil Nadu to celebrate the 60th birthday of V Prabhakaran, the slain chief of the liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (lTTE). Subramanian Swamy, senior BJP leader, called on Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and asked him to get Vaiko arrested under the National Security Act. Swamy also asked the Home Minister to issue a directive under Article 256 of the Constitution to the Tamil Nadu Government to ban the proposed birthday celebration of Prabhakaran, who was the prime accused in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

In a statement issued to the general public on Thursday, Vaiko had asked for celebrating November 26 as the 60th birthday of Prabhakaran. He asked people in Tamil Nadu to distribute sweets, burst crackers and pray for Prabhakaran's soul. The BJP leader also asked the Home Minister to oust Vaiko and the MDMK from the National Democratic Alliance for his continued speeches and actions supporting the lTTE and the creation of Tamil Eelam in Sri lanka. Swamy also asked Rajnath Singh to constitute a Special Investigation Team to probe the Sunanda Pushkar murder case.
