A heavily armed group of infiltrators on Wednesday attempted to breach the line of Control (lOC) along the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch in which one infiltrator was killed while one army jawan sacrificed his life in the day-long operation.
Till the last reports came in the operation was still going on in the area and the troops were maintaining tight cordon to prevent infiltrators from retreating inside the Pakistan territory.
The Army is expected to launch a search and combing operations in the forward area early in the morning to neutralise the group of infiltrators.
This is the first major incident of cross border infiltration after the flag meeting of September 21. Both the sides had attempted to defuse the tensions along the loC in the wake of increasing hostilities.
Officiating Defence PRO SN Acharya in Jammu said, "An infiltration bid was foiled by vigilant troops on the loC in Krishna Ghati Sector on Wednesday."
Identity of the infiltrator was yet to be ascertained.
