An inebriated Army jawan on Tuesday killed four members of a family and injured as many in indiscriminate firing before shooting himself dead at Hassanpur village, in this district. Jawan Jagdip Singh, who was on leave, gunned down four family members and injured four others, including his neighbours, Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Pritpal Singh Thind said.
The jawan, who used his licensed gun to commit the offence, killed himself after he was surrounded by police, which was asking him to surrender. The deceased were identified as labh Kaur, Karnail Kaur, Gurprit Kaur and Harman Singh, and the four injured were referred to a Patiala hospital in a serious condition, police said.
