Taking on the CBI, former Army Chief General VK Singh has threatened that if the investigating agency failed to pursue the case related to his claim of a Rs 14 crore bribe offer to him by a retired officer to clear a tranche of “sub-standard” vehicles, he would put in public domain all documents concerned. Singh’s threat came against the CBI’s reported move to file a closure report in the case.
“let CBI say they are not going to pursue the case and I will put it out in public domain immediately and I am quite sure,” Gen VK Singh told a news channel. Recently reports appeared in media citing sources in CBI that complaint of Singh was likely to be closed as he was yet to provide any documents to support his claim. Strongly blaming the attitude of CBI in the investigation, Gen Singh said he was unable to understand what kind of evidence the investigators want. He criticized CBI for seeking him to name possible witnesses and supporting documents.
“Were people expecting me that I should have wired my office, I should have known the mind of the gentleman who walked into my office, I should have videographed him, I should have taped himIJ I should have had five witnesses to say that I have done this. Is that the evidence that is requiredIJ I think there is something wrong in all this,” he said.
“I don’t think any more evidences required,” he said. Gen Singh had claimed he had some documents which would prove the complicity of the retired official and others in the case. CBI had in April last year received a complaint from Gen Singh about the alleged bribery offer made to him by retired lt Gen Tejinder Singh in 2010, who has denied the charge, terming it as absolutely false and concocted.
