In a joint operation security forces have busted a militant hideout in Saujiyan forest area of frontier Poonch district and recovered huge quantities of arms and ammunition buried under the ground on Friday.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Gorkhas of 93 Infantry Brigade and local police force.

According to officiating Defence PRO SN Acharya, “A joint operation was launched in the Saujiyan forest area on Friday morning resulting in recovery of huge cache of arms, ammunition and other war like stores.”

He said, “The security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, one 12 bore rifle, one Chinese, two Pak origin & one country-made pistol, two Under Barrel Grenade launchers (UBGls), two RPG boosters, one RCIED and five IEDs alongwith timers, in the Chapriyan forest belt of Saujiyan.”

Two Chinese grenades alongwith 47 rounds of AK rifle, 370 Pika rounds, six pistol rounds, two RPG rounds, two UBGl rounds, 10 AK-47 magzines, five pistol magazines, approximately 20 kg explosives, 500 grams plastic explosive, cordtex safety fuse, firing cable, mobile phone, battery, binocular, insulation tape and wireless system were also recovered from the spot.

Saujiyan forest belt remained active in the recent weeks when Pakistan Army exchanged heavy shelling in the area to provide cover fire to group of infiltrators.

Security forces suspected the arms and ammunition could have been dumped by one of the groups of infiltrators or local OGW’s to aid militant strike in the area.

Following recovery of this huge cache the security grid has been further tightened and more sniffer dogs would be deployed on the ground to carry out thorough search operations in the area.
