Are gallows also for Babri Masjid convicts: Owaisi

Member of Parliament from Hyderabad and president of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi has criticised the decision of the BJP Government to hang 1993 Bombay bomb blast case convict Yaqub Memon and asked whether those responsible for Babri Masjid demolition and subsequent riots in Bombay and other blasts in different places in India will also be hanged.

Speaking to media Asad Owaisi asked why the perpetrators of Babri Masjid demolition were not punished so far as this was the root-cause of all other subsequent incidents. Owaisi, whose MIM has also emerged as an important political force in Maharashtra, recalled that Srikrishna Commission report on the Bombay riots was thrown in cold storage by the previous Congress Government and the present BJP Government was also doing the same.

He also asked whether the Hindu terrorists accused in Malegaon, Mecca Masjid, Ajmer and Samjhauta Express blasts will also be hanged like Yaqub MemonIJ “Will people like Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, Col Purohit and Assemanand be hanged”, he questioned.

Comparing the Bombay blast with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the killers of the former Prime Minister were shown mercy because of political backing. “Killers of Rajiv Gandhi and Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh were not hanged as they had the support of political parties”, he said.
