Apex court shields Pushpa from arrest

The Supreme Court on Friday granted protection from arrest to Rajya Sabha member Sasikala Pushpa, who along with her husband and son is facing allegations of sexual harassment and torture filed by two of their domestic maids.

Granting a six-week reprieve to the MP, who was recently expelled from her party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur asked the Delhi High Court to expeditiously decide her anticipatory bail application.

Senior advocate Siddharth luthra, who appeared for Pushpa, argued that his client was not running away as she is a Member of Parliament. He explained that the HC had asked her to appear before the Court due to a technical fault in the vakalatnama filed before the Court.

Earlier, the HC on August 11 had directed Tamil Nadu government not to take any coercive action till August 22 in the case against all the accused including the MP.
