Apex court notice to Centre, States on development policy in Naxal den

Published on:

The Supreme Court wants to know from the Centre and nine States the fate of the ongoing integrated development action plan for Naxal-affected areas.

In a  PIl, a former MlA from Madhya Pradesh, Kishore Samrite, raised the concern over the growing clout of Naxal outfits and  sought a central policy to handle the menace.

The Bench of Chief Justice P Sathasivan and Justice Ranjana Desai directed States of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Utter Pradesh Governments to give response within four weeks.

The petition said that despite the Integrated Action Plan meant for development of naxal areas, the scheme failed to take off due to differences between the Ministry of

Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Home

Affairs (MHA) over its implementation.
