There is fresh trouble for Sahara group head Subrata Roy after the Supreme Court on Monday issued contempt notice to him for allegedly interfering in the 2G scam probe.
The action came on a petition filed by Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Rajeshwar Singh, who is the investigating officer (IO) in the multi-crore scam. The bench of Justices GS Singhvi and KS Radhakrishnan held the petition to be maintainable and issued notices to two journalists working with Sahara Group — Upendra Rai and Subodh Jain, who allegedly threatened and blackmailed Singh.
The court termed the allegation in the petition to be of “very serious nature” and rejected Sahara’s argument that the contempt plea was not maintainable since the consent of Attorney General was not taken prior to its filing. “Any interference, by anybody, to scuttle a court monitored investigation would amount to interfering with the administration of justice. Courts,” the bench said, adding, “The court is duty bound to protect the dignity and authority of this Court, at any cost, or else, the entire administration of justice will crumble and law and order would be a casualty.”
