In a bizarre incident, a legislator attempted suicide in Anantapur district of Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh in protest against the alleged police harassment of the local people.
Police said MlA of Raidurg constituency in Anantapur district K Ramahcandra Reddy consumed pesticides after a heated argument with the local circle inspector Bhasakar Reddy in the police station. He had gone there to protest against police harassing the people in the name of counseling and binding them over.
The MlA was rushed to neighboring Bellary town in Karnataka for better treatment First his supporters rushed him to the local hospital. But on the advise of doctors he was rushed to the Bellary district hospital for better medical care.
With the news of attempted suicide spreading, the supporters of YSR Congress party came out on the streets. Security was tightened in the town and additional police force was deployed. Ramachandra Reddy was earlier in Congress party but later joined the YSRCP headed by Jaganmohan Reddy.
