Any attempt to disrupt the nation’s unity and integrity by terrorists with the help of black marketeers and Havala operators would not be tolerated, said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani at a function on the eve of Independence Day after unfurling tallest National Flagpole at Vadodara.
The State-level Independence Day function in Gujarat will be held at the cultural capital of the State — Vadodara on Tuesday. Rupani also attended series of function at Vadodara on Monday.
As part of the series of I-Day functions, Rupani also inaugurated the Rs 55-crore ‘Smart City’ Urban Bus Service, free Wi-Fi Service befitting the Internet era, NextGen Harni Police Station, Sthapatya Park on the bank of Harni lake, modernisation of Sana Talav, rejuvenation of the city’s 29 talavs (water bodies) and planted saplings at Shahid Smriti Van.
With rapid urbanisation and 50 per cent of the State’s population living in urban areas, the Chief Minister said these efforts would continue to make city livable and civic life comfortable.
He hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative as the former Chief Minister of Gujarat to hold the State-level I-Day functions at different places as part of his policy of decentralization. He also asked everybody to imbibe the Prime Minister’s call for ‘Service to the Nation’.
In another function CM Rupani distributed ‘Sudarshan Chakra – Tablet’ to students at very token price. To provide best opportunities to the youths, the state government has initiated the ambitious plan to distribute 3.50-lakh tablets, at a cost of Rs 200-Crore, among the students.
“The tablets would be given away to the students at a cost of Rs 1,000/- per piece. The amount (Rs 30-Crore) collected from the students would be utilized in providing free ‘WiFi’ in the campuses of the universities and colleges. Besides this, e-lectures and e-libraries would be strengthened,” he said.
Rupani distributed 9276 tablets to the students. Calling youths to strengthen the love for the nation, he said that India is capable of giving be fitting reply to the evil designs of the terrorism and extremism.
