The Samajwadi Party expelled former Jalaun MP Ghanshyam Anuragi from the party for six years on Sunday.
The ruling party also expelled former Chairman of Jalaun District Panchyat Shishupal Singh Yadav and Vishnupal Singh Yadav. Shishupal is the younger brother of party’s Rajya Sabha MP Chandra Pal Singh Yadav.
SP sources said that during the election of Chairman of District Panchyat, Shishupal had opposed the party candidate Asna Khatun and supported Independent candidate Suman Niranjan and she won the election.
This enraged the Muslim supporters of the party and they burnt the effigy of the party and local leaders in protest.
Succumbing to pressure from local Muslim leaders, the SP expelled Shishupal and other Yadav leaders from the party. In retaliation, the Yadav leaders organised themselves and pressed for action against former MP Ghanshyam Anuragi, who is from the Dalit community. The SP also expelled Anuragi from the party on Sunday.
Party sources confirmed that Anuragi met senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav in Saifai on Sunday and pleaded his loyalty for the party.
