In a press statement Defence Spokesman said, "Havaldar Satyapal fought gallantly during the terrorist attack in the Rajouri sector". Two heavily-armed terrorists were neutralised during the encounter while they attempted to storm an army camp taking advantage of the darkness and thick foliage.

In the initial gunfight  three soldiers of the Indian Army were killed in action while Rifleman Nishant Malik succumbed later, taking the Army’s toll to four.

The slain terrorists were believed to be the members of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen squad.

The Pargal Army post, located 25 kms away from the Line of Control, acted as an active base of an Army unit deployed in the forward area. The post accommodated a large number of soldiers in the remote area and was  guarded by sentry positions and barbed wire fencing.
