Another setback for TDP; one more party MlA may join TRS

Ahead of its plenary session, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) was likely to get another shot in the arm as speculation was rife that one more Telugu Desam Party MlA along with a few other leaders was likely to switch the loyalties.

Amid the indications that he was leaving the TDP, Kishan Reddy on Tuesday held a meeting with his supporters to discuss the future course of action. Sources said he had sought the views of his supporters on joining the TRS.

Three TDP MlAs and several other important leaders of the party have already joined the TRS weakening the yellow party. One of the MlAs T Srinivas Yadav is already serving as a Minister in Telangana Cabinet.

Meanwhile as the election of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as the party president for another term of two years was a mere formality, party was agog with the speculation that his son and Minister for Panchayati Raj and IT K Taraka Rama Rao was likely to be elevated to the position of working president of the party.

The party sources said that a proposal to this effect would be moved during the plenary of the party starting from Friday. KTR, as KCR’s son popularly known, was already playing an active role both in the Government and the party, and speculation is rife that he will be political heir to his father.

But a formal elevation of KTR can create fissures in the party as KCR’s nephew and another ambitious young leader T Harish Rao has his own aspirations. Some party leaders believe that he may not take his marginalisation lightly.

But in a clear indication which way the wind was blowing, Harish Rao did not find a place in any of the 7 committees formed to make arrangements for the party’s plenary in Hyderabad.
