An alleged incident of ‘love jehad’ created tension in Bhuj — the district headquarters of bordering Kutch district after a married Muslim man not only fled with a Hindu girl but also converted her.
According to sources, a Hindu girl belonging to Patel community was reportedly converted to Islam by one Abdul Karim Sama. Sama a married man subsequently tied nuptial knot with her. As a result of it, a large number of people gathered at a police station in Bhuj and protested against the marriage which they termed part of larger conspiracy in the name of ‘love jehad’.
The crowd only became calm after the police ensured them to investigate into the matter. Meanwhile, an activist of a right wing organisation in Bhuj claimed that in last one year as many as 22 incidents of love jehad have been registered in Kutch district alone.
“Such incidents are increasing in Gujarat in planned manner. This is third such incident in Sansakar College of Bhuj. The girl who became Marium was also the student of the same college,” he claimed, requesting anonymity.
Just last month, entire Nadiad town in central Gujarat remained closed for two days due to similar incident of love jehad in which a 40-year-old bootlegger belonging to minority community and already having two wives eloped with Patel girl half of his age.
