For the first time since its inception in 1920, the Annual Conference of Directors General of Police and top brass of Intelligence and security agencies would be convened in Guwahati on November 29 and 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the conference on November 30 and present the President's Police Medals for distinguished service to officers of the Intelligence Bureau.

The Intelligence Bureau organised the first ever conference of the police chiefs in India in 1920 and since then, these conferences have been held regularly in New Delhi. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would address the conference on November 29. The Chief Ministers of all northeastern States would also attend the high-level police meet.

“The objectives of the conference are to provide an interactive platform for senior police professionals and security administrators in the country to discuss and debate diverse national security-related issues, as also the various operational, infrastructural and welfare-related problems faced by the police.

"Its deliberations include formulation and sharing of professional practices and processes in tackling challenges relating to crime control and law and order management besides internal security threats such as terrorism, insurgency, left wing extremism, espionage and organised crime. The conference offers opportunities for generation and exchange of new ideas on capacity building for the police in respect of manpower, training, logistics and advanced technology," said the Home Ministry in a statement.
