Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday met two-year-old Chandrasekhar, who was rescued from a 20-feet borewell. He presented him with a Rs 2 lakh fixed deposit which will mature to Rs 20 lakh by the time he is 20.
Officials also shared how the team, comprising officials from NDRF, Guntur administration, police and State Disaster Response and Fire Services, rescued the child in 12-hour-long rescue operation.
After the boy had fallen into the uncovered abandoned bore well near his home in Guntur district Tuesday evening, the Chief Minister directed State administration to use all the resources and save the child.
Following the CM’s directive, all the departments concerned were alerted. The Health Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Collector’s office, Panchayat Raj, District Fire Officer, the Superintendent of Police and other emergency-related services were pressed into action to save the child.
The boy was kept conscious by pumping oxygen into the borewell and playing music. His parents keep on engaging him in conversation through a mobile phone, officials said.
The NDRF team pulled out the boy by digging a parallel pit before ensuring the boy won't slip down further.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials to prepare a case study and document the strategy, for future reference. He asked them to spread awareness to the public, and insist that they report any uncovered borewells to the concerned authorities.
