Analyst gives new twist

Some more lapses and contradictions emerged at the ongoing re-trial of Salman Khan on Thursday, with a chemical analyst claiming that he had received a 6 ml blood sample of the Bollywood actor involved in the hit-and-run mishap but on actual measurement done during the test he had found that the sample contained 4 ml blood and he was fumbling for answers on a few questions.

Chemical analyst Bala Shankar, who had told the trial court in his deposition given on December 3 that he had found alcohol in the actor’s blood sample and that the alcohol content found was higher than the prescribed levels, gave a new twist to the re-trial, when he said during the cross-examination by Salman's lawyer Srikant Shivade, that the volume of the actor’s blood sample had gone down from 6 ml to 4 ml.  He was unable to explain as to where the remaining 2 ml had gone.

Bala Shankar, a prosecution witness in the case, had earlier told the court on December 3 that he had found 62 mg of ethyl alcohol in the blood. The analyst had also said that normally when a person consumed alcohol, he would have about 30 mg of alcohol per 100 ml, but if he was on medication then the alcohol content might increase by up to 40 per cent. He had also told the court that the alcohol content found in the actor’s blood sample was higher than the prescribed levels.
