Dr. Kafeel, a pediatrician from Gorakhpur who came to address the public in AMU on the Citizenship Amendment Act in December last year got relief from the Hon’ble Supreme Court. After his release from the High Court, the State Government and administration had filed SLP in the Supreme Court but the Supreme Court refused to hear.
There is a wave of happiness among the students of Aligarh Muslim University after this decision. They have called it a victory for justice. Dr. Kafeel's local advocate Irfan Ghazi said that the petition filed by the state government and administration concerning Dr. Kafeel has been rejected by the Supreme Court.
Dr. Hamza Malik, Former President, Resident Doctors Academy said that this is the victory of justice. We were constantly saying that Dr. Kafeel had done nothing wrong. We had earlier appealed to the Chief Minister of the state and those in other positions not to persecute Dr. Kafeel. Release them from jail immediately. Take back the charges leveled against them. Today, after this move of the Supreme Court, it has become clear that Dr. Kafeel is completely innocent.
According to Syed Majid Hussain Zaidi, Former Vice President, AMUSU, he also heard the speech of Dr. Kafeel Khan when he came to address the movement against the Citizenship Amendment Act last year. According to him, Dr.Kafeel made his statement within the constitutional limit. But matter ignited due to the oppressive policies of the administration and the state government. It was also unconstitutional to file a case against Dr. Kafeel. After this, when Dr. Kafeel got relief from the court in one case, the administration and the state government acted under the National Security Act in the wrong sense. These steps of the government have proved unconstitutional after the Supreme Court's decision.
On 12th December 2019, Dr. Kafeel addressed the students in AMU against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
