J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK chief, made it clear on Thursday that she had “an ace up her sleeve” but kept the entire political spectrum in the State on tenterhooks without revealing her plans for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
The general secretary of the AIADMK reminded her party cadre to be vigilant about the evil intentions of the Opposition DMK which she said would unleash a bag of lies to cheat the public. “You should counter their false propaganda with facts as our Government has worked only for the welfare of the people. There is no doubt about the victory of the AIADMK in the upcoming assembly election because of the good work done by our government,” Jayalalithaa said while addressing the delegates of the AIADMK General Council and Executive Committee which met at Chennai on the New Year eve to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming Assembly election.
Referring to the resolutions passed in the General Council of the party authorising her to take whatever decisions she feels good for the AIADMK including selection of allies, Jayalalithaa said she would take the right decision at the appropriate time based on the prevailing situation. She told the party cadre that there were no specific strategies in fighting elections.
Jayalalithaa reminded the cadre that the AIADMK with 37 members was the third largest party in the lok Sabha. “In the 2009 lok Sabha election and the 2011 assembly election, the AIADMK had aligned with certain political outfits depending on the prevailing situation. We faced the 2014 lok Sabha election without any alliance and swept the election. The strategy for the 2016 assembly election will be finalised after considering the ground realities,” declared Jayalalithaa.
She also lambasted the DMK led by the evil forces (read Karunanidhi and son Stalin) for betraying the people of Tamil Nadu in the matter of power cuts, the license issued to methane extraction plant in the fertile Cauvery Delta region of the State and in the Sri lankan Tamil issue.
Earlier, the party general council unanimously elected Jayalalithaa as general secretary of the party for a record seventh term and adopted 14 resolutions which declared that 2016 would be the “Year of the AIADMK” and the party would again blossom under the able leadership of Jayalalithaa. More than 3000 members of the General Council drawn from all over Tamil Nadu attended the session.
