BJP’s national president Amit Shah will felicitate those who protested the Emergency imposed by Congress Government under the Prime Ministership of Indira Gandhi on June 26.
In the felicitation ceremony all those who had to go in prison under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, 1971 (MISA) from Gujarat will be honoured by the BJP president at Ahmedabad. The State BJP will observe June 26 as ‘Black Day’ in the history of nation to mark the emergency period.
On June 25, 1975 then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared emergency across India. Then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed official issued notification under Article of 352 of the constitution because of the prevailing ‘internal disturbance’. The Emergency was in effect till 21 March 1977.
State BJP unit has initiated exercise to prepare a list of ‘MISA vasi’ (those who booked under MISA) residing in Gujarat. Interestingly Current Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and former CM Shankersinh Vaghela were also booked under MISA during the period. Rupani will give keynote speech during the felicitation program.
According to a senior BJP leader the programme to felicitate ‘MISA vasi’ was aimed at creating awareness among the youth about Indira Gandhi led Congress Government’s autocratic rule.
Though June 25 is being observed as ‘Black Day’ but state BJP has organised two day long ‘Chintan Bethak’ starting from June 24. Hence the program of felicitation of ‘MISA vasi’ kept on June 26.
