With a view to secure power in 2016 State elections, the BJP is planning to bring top leaders like party president Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to Bengal in the coming two months.

While Shah would attend the party State committee meeting on September 6 and 7 to be held in Siliguri, Jaitley who is also the Defence Minister would interact with the Kolkata intellectuals during his visit to the City of Joy on August 24, State BJP president Rahul Sinha said on Wednesday.

Shah, who is held the architect behind the saffron weep at the hustings in UP, is keeping a close eye on the goings on in Bengal. He would also hold a public rally in Siliguri to begin with. The BJP will again bring him to Bengal and hold a rally in Kolkata on November 30.

“It is our firm belief that the BJP will get further buoyed up by the visit of the senior leaders from Delhi” Sinha said adding the party BJP’s organisation was going from strength to strength in the State.

A backbencher in the State for politics all these years the saffron outfit managed to capture the Bengal voters’ imagination polling almost 17 percent vote in the last general elections. Before this only once the party had reached the double figures in terms of vote share. This happened after Babri Masjid movement in 1991.

The saffron party was currently trying to expand its support base further even as reports of many workers from the left parties joining the saffron ranks particularly in the wake of severe persecution from the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The party’s observer for Bengal Siddharthnath Singh had earlier given a call for “Trinamool-free Bengal” and said the BJP would cause a “Parivartan II” to happen in the State in 2016.
