Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for failing to control inflation and rising prices of essential commodities.

“The prices of vegetables are rising and inflation is going up. Modi had promised to control prices and corruption, but he has failed to do both,” Rahul said in his brief interaction with the media at Jais during his day-long visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi on Friday. “The (Central) Government has failed to address the main problems of the poor people,” he said.

The Congress leader, however, hastened to add that the Modi Government had been in power for just two months and this short period was not enough to assess the performance of any government.“let us wait for some more time as at present I am unable to say more about this government,” he said.Rahul also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally Shiv Sena for the alleged force-feeding of a fasting Muslim employee at a Maharashtra Government guest house in Delhi, saying it was “politics of bullying” people.

He said the Shiv Sena MP’s attempt to force-feed a rozedar at Maharashtra Sadan showed what the ideologies of the BJP and Shiv Sena were.“This is extremely damaging to the country and this is what we fight against every day,” he added. This was Rahul’s second visit to Amethi after winning the lok Sabha election from there by defeating Smriti Irani of the BJP.

Irani, who has been rewarded with Union Human Resource Development Ministry despite losing to Rahul, is also focusing on Amethi. She had visited the constituency last Saturday.Rahul also went to Pure Fatepur village in Jamo where he visited the house of former MlA Jung Bahadur Singh whose son Daddan Singh was shot dead on June 14 this year.

The Congress vice-president also attended a roza iftaar in Salon in the evening.During the day, Rahul also inspected several ongoing development works being undertaken from MP local Area Development Fund to review their progress. He also met the women workers of Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojna and visited Babupur Sarraiya village in Jagdishpur block, Gauri Dubey Kar Purva in Jamo block and Bansi Thauri in Naseerabad block.

The Congress leader promised solar power-run water tanks in Babupur Sarraiya and Gauri Dubey Kar Purwa for convenience of the locals. Earlier the Congress vice-president arrived at the Chaudhary Charan Singh airport at Amausi in the State capital on Friday morning. He was accorded a warm welcome by the Congress leaders.

From Amausi, Rahul reached Amethi by road. The Congress vice-president was scheduled to return to Delhi on Friday night but he took a night halt at the Munshiganj guest house and would return to the national capital on Saturday morning.
