Ambitious agenda on Parliament's platter?

The Government has finalised an ambitious agenda for this week in both Houses of Parliament. While External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is to make a statement on Monday on her recent visit to Pakistan, the GST and Real Estate Bills have been listed in the Rajya Sabha.

In the lok Sabha, the Government has proposed to take up nine items of legislative and financial businesses. Of these, time has been allotted for seven items. A heavy agenda of 16 items are due to be taken up in the Upper House which “lagged behind” lok Sabha in transaction of business last week due to disruptions and forced adjournments, according to the Government.

Since the commencement of the Winter Session on November 26, the lok Sabha has passed six Bills while same number of new Bills were introduced. In the Rajya Sabha, only one Bill could be passed while no new Bills were introduced.

The Bills listed for the lok Sabha in the upcoming week include, the Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill 2015, Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) for 2015-16, Demands for Excess Grants (General) for 2012-13, Introduction, consideration and passing of related Appropriation Bills, the Sugar Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2015, the National Waterways (Amendment) Bill, 2015, the Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015, the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

The discussion on price rise and sustainable development goals would also be taken up in the lok Sabha.
