Speculation is rife about possible re-entry of Amar Singh in the Samajwadi Party after he had a one-to-one meeting with party’s national president Mulayam Singh Yadav for 30 minutes at the VIP lounge of Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in the State capital. Sources said that both went to New Delhi in the same flight and were seen seated next to each other.
“This cannot be a chance meeting. Both talked to each other in private but boarded the plane separately though both of them had seats next to each other,” sources said. This meeting assumes importance as both the leaders did not have an interaction in front of the public. Singh specially flew down to lucknow to attend inauguration of Janeshwar Mishra Park, considered to be the biggest park in Asia.
Addressing the gathering, Singh said that he had come to attend the function on personal invite of Mulayam Singh Yadav. “I am not Samajwadi, but Mulayamwadi,” he said, sending signals loud and clear about the soft corner he has for Mulayam Singh Yadav.
In his speech, Mulayam did not mention Amar Singh’s name barring a formal namaskar and did not speak to him in public. This was done probably to fathom the response of his party leaders about a possible re-induction of Amar Singh in Samajwadi Party. Tremors were already felt in the party as senior party leader Md Azam Khan stayed away from the function for the reasons best known to him.
Mulayam’s younger brother Shivpal Singh Yadav gave Singh company on the dais and both could be seen smiling and talking to each other and sometimes holding hands.
Singh had earlier told The Pioneer that his visit was apolitical but his one-to-one meeting with Mulayam Singh has given a new angle to his lucknow visit. Some believe that Amar needs Mulayam’s support because his Rajya Sabha nomination expires in November, 2014. The Samajwadi Party which has majority in UP Vidhan Sabha can send six members to Upper House and probably Singh is eyeing this opportunity. “The scenario will be clear within a few days. Please wait till then,” said a senior leader.
