Amar Singh meets BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur

The erstwhile high-flying politico Amar Singh, who once "guided" Samajwadi Party before being ousted in an inner party coup, on Wednesday had a two-hour-long meeting with senior BJP leader and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Om Prakash Mathur here triggering speculations about his next political move.

Singh has been looking for greener pastures after being "refused" entry into the SP even though he had recently met his former patron and SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, in an apparent "home coming" bid.

Before the lok Sabha elections, Singh along with his political associate and former Bollywood actress Jaya Prada had joined the RlD (headed by Ajit Singh), which got decimated in the lok Sabha poll.

Singh closeted with Mathur, who has been put in-charge of the politically most significant State of UP, at the BJP leader's residence. Singh, who has his home base in Azamgarh district in East UP, is known to have given SP its "urban face"  and "connect with Bollywood."

Confirming the meeting, Mathur said, " Amar Singh is an old friend as Rajya Sabha member and colleague" and hence, "chatted for long". Mathur, however, dismissed queries that Singh was looking at the BJP as his next political destination.

Mathur, who was in-charge of Maharashtra before the Assembly poll and before that of Gujarat, has emerged as  key trouble shooter for the BJP. He hopes that the party would emerge victorious in the UP Assembly polls due in 2017 and even better its performance of lok Sabha.

The BJP leader said Singh was known to him since long when he would come to meet Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in Rajasthan. Mathur is seen to be groomed politically by the former Rajastahn Chief Minister Shekhawat.
