History will be created in Allagadda Assembly constituency of Kurnool district in Seemandhra region. If the polling trend was any indication, the people of this constituency will be electing a dead person as their representative.
Shobha Nagi Reddy, the former MlA and YSRCP candidate had died in a road accident a fortnight ago but her named remained on the list of the candidate. As the YSR Congress was not a recognised party, Election Commission did not countermand the poll.
As Election Commission clarified that in case Shobha wins the seat, a repoll will be ordered, Shobha’s family and the YSRCP leaders continued their campaign to ensure their victory. The reports from the constituency suggest that there was a wave of sympathy for the departed leader and her family and an overwhelming number of people voted for the “ceiling fan”, the symbol of the party. Shobha’s main rival was TDP candidate Gangula Prabhakar Reddy.
