Alert in Jammu over fresh attack

Published on:

A  day after the twin terror attacks completely exposed the synergy between the State police, Army and Central paramilitary forces in the Jammu region, the intelligence agencies have warned against fresh fidayeen strikes on key Army installations in the region particularly in the area covered under the Nagrota-based 16 corps headquarters.

The intelligence agencies are also anticipating presence of a few more fidayeen groups in the area and similar strikes in the days to come. Recovery of a ‘rucksack’ containing combat dresses and other materials used for cooking purpose on the outskirts of Jammu in Greater Kailash area has also alerted the security grid to pull up their socks and remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigations carried out by the BSF along the International border in Jammu frontier has ruled out the possibility of fresh infiltration by the heavily armed group of fidayeen before carrying out the twin terror attacks on Hiranagar police station and the Army camp in Samba on Thursday. The BSF officials continue to maintain that there was no scope of infiltration from across the border neither they have detected any movement or the same has been reported by people living in the border villages.

According to official sources, the three member fidayeen group had boarded the auto-rickshaw in Haria Chak area, roughly 3 km from the International border and traveled a long distance before striking Hiranagar police station. The official sources in the security grid claimed that it was not possible for three fidayeen to cover the distance of 3 km on foot from the International border without any alarm.

Inspector General BSF Jammu Frontier is expected to visit the International Border on Saturday to make a fresh assessment of the prevailing security situation on ground zero.

On the other hand the security grid in the State has been directed to maintain round the clock vigil on the movement of suspected people in and around areas where key Army installations are located to prevent a similar fidayeen strike.

CM Omar Abdullah on Friday also chaired a high level security review meeting with top brass of the Northern Command headquarters and officers of the paramilitary, State police, State and Central intelligence agencies. During the meeting the Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of security grid and

stressed the need for further strengthening the surveillance and security measures to avoid such acts in future.
