The Hyderabad Police conducted a search operation of the house of former police constable Obulesh, an accused in the attempted abduction of a prominent industrialist K Nityananda Reddy from the KBR National Park in Hyderabad and recovered 22 rounds of ammunition of AK-47 rifle.
Obulesh, who is also facing charges of stealing the AK-47 from the base of anti-Naxalite force Greyhounds, where he was serving as a constable, is presently in judicial custody.
The police in its remand report submitted to Nampally Criminal Court on Monday said that the ammunition recovered from his house at Narsingi in city outskirts include six used bullets and two dummy bullets.
Meanwhile, Banjara Hills police station investigating the case has sought five days custody of Obulesh for further questioning. Police suspect that he was involved in another case of kidnapping for ransom using the AK-47 rifle.
He had attempted to kidnap Aurobindo Paharma vice-chairman K Nityananda Reddy when the latter was returning home from his morning walk at the park. When Reddy foiled his attempt, he opened fire from the AK-47 and fled from the scene leaving behind the stolen rifle. On the same evening, the police arrested him from the Kurnool-Anantapur border.
