As part of its strategy to wrest Telangana from Telangana Rashtra Samiti in the next elections, the Congress party has decided to focus its attention on the crucial Muslim votes by focusing on the major issues and demands of the minority community. In a move in this direction the party organized a massive rally in Hyderabad to highlight the failure of the K Chandrasekhar Rao government in fulfilling the promise of increasing the reservation quota for backward Muslims to 12%.

To send a message of the commitment of Congress party to the welfare of minorities almost entire leadership of the party including the AICC Secretary R C Khuntia and the state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy led the rally from the state party headquarter to Abids. While the leader of opposition in legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shbbir reminded the community that it was Congress government which had extended 4% reservations in education and jobs benefitting thousands of youth during last 12 years, N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Chief Minister KCR had lied to the state assembly by making promise of increasing the quota to 12%.

On the occasion the party launched a post card campaign addressed to the Chief Minister demanding that he should fulfill the promise.

“What happened to your promise of organizing a protest in New Delhi if the Centre rejects the 12% quota billIJ Why are you not taking an all party delegation to Delhi”IJ Uttam Kumar Reddy asked.

To remind the people about promise, the organizers were playing a clip of Chief Minister’s election speech of 2014 promising the increase in the quota.

Charging the Chief Minister with betraying the faith of Muslims he demanded that report of probe into the killing of five Muslim undertrials at  Aler be made public and action should be taken against those responsible for the incident. He also questioned the silence of the state government on the acquittal of the accused of the Mecca Masjid blast case.
