AIADMK lawyers urge authorities to re-open Batcha death case

The 2011 death of Sadiq Batcha, a close associate of DMK leader and former Union Minister for Communications A Raja took a new turn on Saturday with the legal wing of the AIADMK approaching the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and the Director General of Police (Tamil Nadu) with a plea to re-open the case.

This is a follow up to the disclosure made by 24-year-old Prabhakaran, who claims to be one of the aides of the 2G Spectrum scam-tainted Raja. Speaking to reporters at Tiruchirappalli on May 18, Prabhakaran claimed that Batcha was murdered by a senior police officer who was close to the Karunanidhi family.

“Sadiq Batcha was killed at the office of Green House Promoters in T Nagar in Chennai on March 16, 2011. Jaffar Sait, the then head of Tamil Nadu Intelligence department, strangulated him with a towel while Pramesh Kumar, a close relation of  Raja pressed his knee on Batcha’s neck while I held his legs. later, Pramesh Kumar and his friends hanged Batcha’s body in his house to make it look as if it was a suicide,” Prabhakaran had told reporters at Tiruchirappalli Press Club on Tuesday. Prabhakaran said he got in touch with Raja and his relations to make some quick money.

The AIADMK advocates P V Selvakumar, S Diwakar, CV Thirumaran and Ram Sankar in two separate representations to the above mentioned officers referred to the disclosures made by Prabhakaran and called for a thorough probe into the incident.
