The AIADMK and the CPI will fight the upcoming lok Sabha elections together. This was announced here on Sunday by J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK general secretary and Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan, former general secretary of the CPI.
Jayalalithaa had a discussion with Bardhan, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, CPI secretary and Daniel Pandian the Tamil Nadu State secretary of the CPI at Veda Nilayam, her residence in Chennai’s Poes Garden on Sunday.
Details like the number of seats and the constituencies would be worked out later, according to Mahendran, State assistant secretary of the party.
Bardhan said the AIADMK-left alliance is a winning combination and he has no doubts about the electoral prospects of the combination. For her part, Jayalalithaa said the top priority was to win all the 40 seats at stake from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Mahendran told The Pioneer that the CPI(M) leaders are expected to call on Jayalalithaa on Monday to formalise the AIADMK-CPI-CPI(M) alliance.
As a prelude to the AIADMK-CPI(M) meeting for Monday, the CPI(M) MlAs waxed eloquence on Jayalalithaa for her performance as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the last three years.
“Jayalalithaa is the Chief Minister of a Government that nurtures a pluralistic and secular culture. If communal elements are allowed to enter the State, it will pose a danger to the long cherished tradition of Tamil Nadu,” K Balabharati, CPI(M) MlA had told the Tamil Nadu legislative Assembly on Friday while participating in the debate to the Governor’s address to the House.
