Pakistani national Javed Kamal, who was apprehended near the Indo-Nepal border at Sonauli (Maharajganj), would be jointly quizzed by intelligence agencies. Kamal, earlier grilled by Intelligence Bureau sleuths, was sent to a five-day police custodial remand by a Maharajganj court on Wednesday.
Kamal was nabbed by SSB jawans and Immigration officials at Sonauli last Friday. While he had a passport (No-AG4209512) issued on September 2, 2013, he did not have a valid visa to enter India.
During initial questioning, he identified himself as Javed Kamal of 76 GB, Faislabad in Pakistan. When he failed to satisfy the official querries, the police applied for his custodial remand which was sanctioned on Wednesday afternoon.
“The IB had inputs that taking advantage of recent political upheaval in Nepal, Pakistani groups might push conduits into India to actualise their sinister designs. Hence the sleuths focussed on extracting details to verify the input through Kamal,” said an IB officer who quizzed the Pakistani national.
Besides sleuths of UP Intelligence wing, officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Anti-Terrorists Squad, Intelligence Bureau, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and other agencies of terror-affected states reached Maharajganj to grill Kamal. Among other things, the sluths are expected to grill the suspect about a timer bomb being planted in Farukkabad and railway track being removed in Mohanlalganj railway station.
SSB and the officials of the immigration outpost on Sonauli Border of Indo-Nepal in Maharajganj, had intercepted a suspected person after they found him sneaking into India.
