law Minister Ashwani Kumar has said that the decision to call CBI Director for a meeting to discuss the probe report on Coalgate was that of the Attorney General Goolam E Vahanvati but his party and law officers in the Government have decided to await the Supreme Court hearing next week to pronounce a decision on his conduct.
Kumar, who had presented his position before the senior leadership of the Congress party on Wednesday, reiterated he had done no wrong and laid the blame at the doorstep of the AG for arranging the meeting which was attended by CBI Director Ranjit Sinha and former ASG Harin P Raval among others.
It was this meeting that triggered strong reaction from the court which blasted the CBI and sought details as to which persons other than law Minister and two Joint Secretaries in PMO and Coal Ministry had seen the report.
On law Minister’s allegation blaming AG for calling the meeting, Congress spokesman Sandeep Dikshit said the blame game comes when there is some wrong doing. “It is for the court to decide. It is speculation,” he said.
