After Gogoi, Assam Cong demands Governor's ouster

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Thursday demanded the Central Government to remove Governor PB Acharya from the State within one month time and threatened massive protest if the Centre does not pay heed to the demand.

APCC president Anjan Dutta said that the Congress workers are going to stage a protest in Guwahati on Friday demanding the removal the Governor for his “behaviour”. “We are going to wait for one month time. However, if the Centre does not pay heed to our demand, we are going to stage series of protests in front of Raj Bhavan every day,” said Dutta.

Dutta said that about 10,000 Congress workers are going to take part in the protest rally to be organised on Friday.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had recently demanded ouster of the Governor accusing that the Governor has been behaving more like a RSS pracharak or a BJP worker than a Governor.

Gogoi’s accusation came a day after the Governor allegedly said Hindustan is for Hindus. Acharya, however, refuted the allegation later and clarified that he only said that the persecuted Hindus from anywhere in the world has a right to come to India and settle here and that it is our duty to welcome them.
