After dubious height lengthening surgery, Nikhil manages a few steps

More than seven months after he underwent a dubious surgery on both of his legs on the promise of increasing his height only to get crippled and become bed ridden, 22 year old Nikhil Reddy has a glint of hope in his eyes.

Nikhil Reddy, whose “height increasing” operation by an orthopedic surgeon Dr Chandra Bhushan at Hyderabad based Global Hospital had sent waves of shock and consternation, was able to walk about 20 steps without any body’s help or support of walker at his home.

A video indicating improvement in his condition went viral on the social media after the family had sent it to the authorities of Global Hospital to keep them updated on Nikhil’s condition following the appointment of a three member experts committee for Nikhil’s post operative treatment.

While the development has brought some cheers to his family and friends, some members of the medical fraternity used the video to put the family in the dock.

A message circulating among the doctors alleged that the family had made false allegations and victimized Dr Chandra Bhushan by hiding the improved condition of the patient.

After the pathetic story of how Nikhil was made to under go a dubious surgery on both his legs by Dr Chandra Bhushan on the promise that it will increase his height by two inches went public, the Telangana State Medical Council had put the surgeon under suspension recently.

In view of the raging controversy and all round condemnation, Telangana Speciality Hospitals Association had appointed an experts committee to treat Nikhil.

In the short video Nikhil is seen slowly walking at his home with fixators attached to his knees.

Reacting to the allegations of doctors that his family had tried to target the doctor, Nikhil’s father S Govardhan Reddy said that those making such statements were not aware or feigning ignorance of the hell through which Nikhil had passed during last seven months and 20 days.

Holding the surgeon squarely responsible for the condition, Govardhan Reddy said, “we have video clippings of surgeon promising to make Nikhil Reddy walk with the help of a walker within two days and play sports in two months after the surgery”, he said adding that if any body has any doubts about what his son had faced can contact him for any clarification.

It may be recalled that Nikhil was operated upon both his legs on April 5 this year after he had personally signed the papers without informing his parents. The operation had cost several lakhs of rupees.

On the complaint of Govardhan Reddy, Saifabad police station in Hyderabad had registered case of fraud and endangering life of others against the doctors.

The case had taken a dramatic turn earlier this month when Govardhan Reddy threatened to commit suicide outside the police station as police had failed to take criminal action against Dr Chandra Bhushan even after the state Medical Council found him guilty.
